This issue of EBONY magazine celebrated the100th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, a flawed, limited, often misunderstood document, which nevertheless changed the United States of America forever.

The cover of this historic issue announced that it was a "Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation" and featured a portrait of Frederick Douglass, who was identified as the "Father of the Protest Movement".

Inside the magazine we find offerings from many notables of the day, from a Guest editorial by Dr Kenneth Clark, and a poem by Gwendolyn Brooks, to a statement by President John F. Kennedy.

From front cover to back, from editorials to ads, this issue paints a vivid picture of the status--or lack thereof, of the American Negro 100 years after President Lincoln issued the most controversial document of the era.

Although the contents of this issue exist digitally, actual hardcopies of older and/or special issues of EBONY are relatively rare, and few are available to the general public. This issue is currently 59 years old. After a change in ownership, the original EBONY magazine ceased print publication in 2019.

This copy of the iconic 100th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation issue is in good vintage condition, except for the magazine's spine, as shown in the photos. This copy has been in the private collection of one owner since publication.

Now, almost 60 years later, it's time for this 100th Anniversary issue to have a new home. This 100th Anniversary issue would make an historic addition to your collection, or gift it to a favorite family member or organization.
