Just 2 months after the end of World War II, as Black GIs returned to a segregated America, John H. Johnson, together with his wife, Eunice, and his mother, Gertrude Williams, published the first issue of Ebony magazine in November, 1945.

After 30 years of chronicling historic tragedy and triumphs, as well as everyday life in Black America, the Johnson family proudly published this 30th Anniversary issue in November, 1975.

EBONY magazine was the first modern magazine to offer comprehensive coverage of so many aspects of Black American life. The magazine (and its sister publication, JET Magazine) were groundbreakers in too many areas to list here!

Although this information exists digitally, actual hardcopies of older and/or special issues of EBONY are relatively rare, and few are available to the general public! This issue is currently 47 years old. After a change in ownership, the original EBONY magazine ceased print publication in 2019.

This coveted 30th Anniversary issue of EBONY is in very good vintage condition, and will make a meaningful addition to either your private library  or that of your favorite collector, university or cultural center.
